Reliable Highway Resurface Specialists in Bournemouth

Here at Bourne Surfacing & Civils Ltd, we take great pride in providing customers throughout Bournemouth services that keep roads in safe, functional condition. It is vital that road surfaces be maintained and that they be built to a high standard. This is because they must support a lot of weight and vehicles moving at high speed daily. If a road is not up to scratch, it’ll quickly deteriorate, impacting driving conditions, making it unsafe to drive across.

Fortunately, we specialise in highway resurfacing. The average lorry inflicts considerably more damage on a surface than a car does. Potholes, crocodile cracks and crumbling surfaces are usually the results. We have an excellent track record of servicing roads afflicted with such issues, providing solutions that last.

What is Highway Resurfacing?

There’s nothing more irritating than having to swerve around potholes, as driving through these can damage your tyres and suspension. Taking evasive manoeuvres, however, can increase the risk of colliding with another vehicle or pedestrian. Ideally, it would be best if you didn’t have to take such actions, which is why it’s important to ensure that roads are maintained in excellent condition. Highway resurfacing is the process of stripping off the top layer and replacing it with a fresh layer of tarmac.

This new top layer is smooth and level, free of potholes and cracks, making for a far more enjoyable and safer driving experience.

Steps Needed for Highway Resurfacing

Resurfacing a road can be achieved in several steps:

  • Step One – paint is used to identify areas of the concrete that need replacing. Paint is also used to mark the location of underground utilities.
  • Step Two – the damaged concrete is removed, and the area is prepared for new concrete to be laid.
  • Step Three – our team will set up new forms so the new concrete can be poured.
  • Step Four – if a sub-drain is required, a trench will be dug just in front of the kerb. A drainage pipe will then be installed. If the road has an existing sub-drain, this step can be skipped.
  • Step Five – we ground the old pavement surface using a milling machine, a process that takes around a day to complete. Parking will be restricted while this process is ongoing.
  • Step Six – our team will then raise catch basins and manholes to the same level as the new pavement.
  • Step Seven – an oil covering (tack coat) is applied to help the new surface adhere.
  • Step Eight – a new layer of tarmac is applied. If the pavement is not level with the gutter, more than one level may be required.
  • Step Nine – finally, our team carry out a reinstatement surface which includes repairs and the placement of topsoil and sod. The area is cleaned up, and any construction signage or barricades are removed.

Our team adopts set standards that we always meet, including laying the most durable road surfacing available. So if you’re looking for a top-quality solution for a road that’s seen better days, look no further than Bourne Surfacing & Civils Ltd.

How Long Does Road Resurfacing Take?

The form of road maintenance required depends on factors such as the condition of the road, how busy the route is, and which treatment will be most cost and time-efficient. For example, as road resurfacing requires more extensive structural maintenance, such as the removal of worn-out road surfacing, it takes longer than applying a surface dressing.

There’s a lot involved with road resurfacing, such as making sure pedestrians and vehicles are cleared out before removing some or all of the existing road surface. Tarmac needs to be laid ideally in optimal conditions, so bad weather can delay the process. It must also be left to dry for anywhere from 3-24 hours, again, depending on weather conditions. Extreme hot and cold temperatures can delay the process further.

As such, the time it takes cannot always be accurately determined, though you can rest assured that our Bournemouth team will always work with speed and efficiency.

More Than Just Highway Resurfacing Contractors

At Bourne Surfacing & Civils Ltd, we’re proud to be more than just highway resurfacing contractors. We also provide a wide range of other services, ranging from driveway surfacing and repairs to footpaths and cycleways, retails parks, and car park resurfacing.

 Driveway Surfacing and Repairs

If your driveway has seen better days, let us know, as we offer driveway surfacing and repairs services. Perhaps your driveway is showing early signs of wear and tear. Small repairs can be carried out to restore the surface to optimal condition, prolonging its life and saving you from paying out for major repair work. However, if the driveway has virtually crumbled to nothing, we can resurface it, restoring it to full working order.

Footpaths and Cycleways

We can apply this same level of expertise to footpaths and cycleways. As the local council is trying to encourage more and more people to cycle, cycle lanes are seeing more usage. There’s also an increasing need for additional cycle lanes to be built. Footpaths are also necessary for providing pedestrians with a means to get about safely. At Bourne Surfacing & Civils Ltd, we can build and resurface both footpaths and cycle lanes throughout Bournemouth.

Car Park Resurfacing

Car parks see frequent usage daily and so are subject to wear and tear at a rate far quicker than domestic driveways. A car park that’s poorly maintained will put off customers who won’t want to risk damaging their tyres and suspension. Our team can carry out spot repairs and full replacement services, depending on the current condition of your car park. To find out more, simply get in touch with our team today.

Retail Park

Retail parks see a lot of vehicle and foot traffic as they play host to a large number of commercial outlets. As with car parks, these areas see enough usage to ensure wear and tear are incurred at a much faster rate than with domestic driveways. Fortunately, our team can help with fixing and resurfacing retail parks.
